Following the pilot project completion, the plan is to extend affordable internet access to all residents of Chico, focusing on high-speed connectivity across the city.
The pilot project is expected to be completed by Q2 2026. However, as the construction begins in Q2 of 2025, North Valley Fiber will begin customer installations.
The City of Chico/North Valley Fiber has committed to a minimum of $40 per month for internet connectivity, which is a speed of 100 Mbps or faster download and 20 Mbps or faster upload. Internet Services Providers (ISPs) will offer additional plans for different levels of services at corresponding prices.
Yes, the monthly rate includes any equipment needed. There will not be any monthly fees for the equipment.
Installation is free. The customer does not pay a connection fee.
You will receive a mailer approximately 4 weeks prior to the start of construction and your neighborhoods will receive door hangers approximately 1-2 weeks prior to the start of construction.
Yes, the City of Chico will own and operate the network up to the 'modem' in your home or business but will NOT be the Internet Service Provider (ISP).
A variety of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will deliver the actual internet, telephone, or TV services into your home or business.
If you sign-up for service, North Valley Fiber, in conjunction with a construction company, will connect a box to the side of your home or business to a box in the public right of way located near the street.
Prior to North Valley Fiber connecting your home or business, the owner of the property must provide written authorization for the encroachment.
